Each of our boys have their own personalities. Darcy is 5 years old and likes to strut around the field, Basil and Ed are 6 years old. Basil is a little shy but loves to be fed. Ed is gentle loves a cuddle. Bernie is 5 and is our grumpy lovable rogue.
Darcy is the leader of the herd. He is curious, gentle and loves his food.
Basil is our quiet one but a goofball. He stands back and watches. He loves to get Jane to feed him by hand!
Ed is our softy and is very happy to be cuddled. He is a little stand offish until he gets to know you.
Bernie loves water and food! He will get into the food bin if he can. He does have a very good karate kick!
Hamish is new to the herd. He is 4 years old but a gentle soul. Hamish is one of our therapy alpacas.
Archie, Alfie, Harry and Hendrix are the young ones. All around 3 years old.
These young boys are very friendly and love a cuddle!
We currently walk up to of 9 alpacas. The first 15 minutes will be a talk to learn how to handle and walk with your alpaca and a few bits of health and safety. The walk will be 60 -90 minutes followed by a chance to take photos.
If walking isn't your thing then we also offer the opportunity to just meet them. They love a hug and they also love to be fed, perfect for a short activity for all the family.
We moved to Nether Wellwood Farmhouse in November 2020, to find some space and a happier life out of the towns and cities we have been used to.
Surrounded by the wonderful and, at times, wild outdoors of Ayrshire, our farm and the furry and feathered family that occupies it, has grown with the latest addition of our lovely alpacas.
"Four friends that like to take a walk on a Sunday, decided to take a stroll with a difference and what a truly magical day it turned out to be as we made memories with our new found pals Bernie, Darcy, Basil and Ed.
From the minute we arrived Jane and Stuart made us feel totally at ease and were so welcoming, taking time to explain about the Alpacas and how to handle the boys on our treck. Nothing seemed a bother or a rush. Truly lovely people that clearly care deeply about these magestic animals.
We never stopped smiling from start to finish. An absolutely wonderful day. We only have two words. DO IT.
You will love it and Ed gives quite possibly the best cuddles ever!" Kevin
"My 6 year old and I loved our trek with beautiful scenery and great company (human and Al Paca). Owners are lovely and very knowledgeable. We even got to handpick some fresh eggs from the chickens to take home and enjoy." Cheryl
A lovely walk at Dumfries House.
Some photos from this year
Having travelled the world, we settled in Scotland, finally finding our paradise in Ayrshire. Drawn by the magical rolling countryside, our Farmhouse sits on two acres.
You will need to bring a sturdy pair of walking shoes or wellies and waterproofs if the weather is wet. Children from the age of 10 can walk an alpaca. Children under that age must be with a paying adult and supervised at all times. We do not recommend the trek for children under 6.
We cannot accept pushchairs. Dogs are not allowed on the farm.
Please remember that alpacas are not domesticated animals and, while normally gentle, if startled or unsure can kick out to protect themselves. Please supervise children and encourage them to behave in a calm manner around the alpacas. Approach them calmly and from the front where they can see you. Whilst we do our utmost to keep you safe, you must respect the alpacas boundaries.
For younger children or people with restricted mobility, why not book a meet and greet. This will include hand feeding the alpacas and a short walk around our paddock.
PLEASE BE AWARE TREKS MAY BE CANCELLED IN INCLEMENT WEATHER. We will refund or reschedule your walk.
